If this album was good I'd be proud it was named after me. Sadly, it isn't.

This just sounds like Hatebreed with worse vocals. And less catchy. And generally worse overall. But somehow still not as unlistenable as I was expecting. I mean, not as bad as Nation.

Those who constantly compare this era of Sepultura with the Cavalera periods are probably idiots who are stuck in a time where they would happily headbang against a brick wall as to thrash as their favourite past time. These people should grow up and stop hating this band which is only getting better over time and just listen to it properly.
This album DOES have thrashy moments throughout.
The drummer Jean Dolabella is amazing but just because he uses the toms frequently doesn't mean there's really anything tribal going on. That's just the reviewer's bias kicking in with his idea of "Brazilian jungle themes" (there aren't any).
A-Lex is great if you just want to listen to some fast and heavy music. If you want to think and analyze the album closely, it's even more rewarding.

Unfortunately for A-Lex early Sepultura was too kickass to forget about

up till 'Beneath the remains' Sepultura was hardly an original band, and so for me not that interesting. I agree with Helvete's rating.
With A-lex they proof they're still among the best and most original metal bands of their time.
btw the movie is very good, but that soundtrack is dull and dated, glad Sepultura made a much better version, including the Ludwig von cover, well done lads.

Good review. I only disagree in one thing - I kinda like "Ludvig Van". It is a welcome break from the boring songs on the album.

i always have to laugh about this whole Cavelera debate, Roots, Chaos Ad are nowhere near as vicious and brutal sounding in force than A-lex or Dante, they just aren't. Roots was produced by a nu metal producer thats nowhere to be seen these days.

Actually, for me this is far more listeneable than Against Nation Roorback or
Dante XXI
It's not a good album by any means, it's just a little less worse than their previous efforts, in my opinion
