They seem to have a bit more about them than most pop-punk artists.

Agreed, but I can't listen to more than a few songs at a time for whatever reason. Great review, I didn't realise you'd adapt so well to live reviews. I'll probably get this next month, but I've got a few things on my to-get list for now that take priority. This Message Edited On 01.09.09

I have such hate for Bayside. Their songs are so unbelievably average.

Spamue1, I can only presume your problem with listening to too many of their tracks in succession is with Anthony Raneri's vocals. Funnily enough, I am the other way... I struggle at first & then grow more accustomed to his voice.

Good point about doing live reviews too. They are definitely a different beast so to speak. I must admit that this review went through a few rewrites. The first version was a little scratchy & didn't emphasize the live aspect sufficiently.

Adam, congratulations on not using the word "generic". As for their songs being "unbelievably average"; I dunno. I agree with you about their album filler (which I made reference to), but that's way too huge of a generalization to me since I think their highlight tracks are actually very good.

I like "Devotion and Desire," that's an extremely well done pop punk song. Everything else I've heard however is just a poor idea executed well.

Adam, please tell me you have NOT heard 'Winter'...??? I think 'Winter', 'Devotion & Desire' and 'Blame It On Bad Luck' are my fave 3 tracks of Bayside.

COMPANIONCUBE, do you mean your comment in a good or bad way...??? I know some listeners who cannot get used to his voice, while others think it is both original & catchy...

Alligator, neither had I until I found out they were supporting Funeral For A Friend at a gig in Melbourne about 18 months ago. They won me over on the night, which is not exactly a common occurrence for a support band with me.

Haha, yeah that makes sense now. There is such a distinctiveness about Raneri's voice that even his (how can I word it) non-upbeat lyrics becomes contagious. That line indeed stands out.
