Famous Monsters has always been my favourite song...that or Bleed For Me (which was the second and first song I heard of theirs, respectively).

Champ Kind, we should all come to your house and watch WWF/E DVDs to our hearts' content.

In the meantime, I'm getting a copy of this album.

I dunno why, but 'Famous Monsters' just never did it for me.

How come there is no love for 'Click Click Boom' in this thread... Now that song was a whole bunch of fun!

Haha... DavID, I can just imagine you cheering for all the heels & booing all the good guys. Let me know what you think of this album, although I'm sure you will think I have over-rated it to some extent. I was torn between a 2.5 & 3 rating in all honesty & 2.8 is probably about right.

Just a warning to all who listen to this album actually: Don't write it off if you think the first half is pretty much the same old dated crap, as I believe the latter half of the album to be superior.

Track by track:

1. Explosive good start, they've always got a song like this on every album.

2. Similar, but lacks the explosive middle...which is experimental for them I guess?

3. Boring.

4. Really boring.

5. Good, fun rock.

6. Yeah, I can see why you'd think this is the highlight, for once he has decent lyrics.

7. It's Here With You Pt. 2! Strangely, I still like it (I liked Here With You as well).

8. Awesome intro...ordinary song

9. Awesome.

10. Wait...what? Where the hell did this spring from? ALBUM HIGHLIGHT FOR SHO!

I rate this on par with Survival of the Sickest atm...but So Long could change that by itself...

Haha... I warned you about that closer. "Where the hell did this spring from?" is a perfect reaction to it!

As for your track by tracks, I had very similar thoughts to you Tom. I liked track 4 a little more than you and while I described track 7 really horribly in the review, I also liked it.

Track 5 is indeed rather fun, while that intro to track 8 does capture the attention, doesn't it. In fact, I think that song (I'm Coming Back') could be a grower.

Anyway Tom, thanks for backing up my general thoughts... Especially the fact that the album appears to be sliding towards mediocrity around track 4 and then improves all the way up to the atypical closer.

No probs. I then went on to listen to BSLS...and I didn't mind it. Maybe I'm just too attached to Saliva, but it really didn't seem THAT bad...even though it begins to drag by the time it hits Black Sheep (possibly my least favourite song by them ever).

BSLS was ARSE.

Also, no love for Click Click Boom? That was my jam back when I was like fifteen. AW YEH.

While I actually prefer BSLS over SOTS, it still isn't very good, so yeah Tom, it seems like you may be a little too nostalgically attached to them.

And please don't mention 'Black Sheep' whenever DavID is around... It tends to set him off... Yep, even more than 'CLICK CLICK BOOM'!

BIYS is still their best album, but I use the term best loosely.

Well, I still haven't grown out of generic hard-rock, so I may be a bit bias, but you gotta give Saliva the credit they deserve: each song actually sounds different. And in the eternally re-used riff world of hard-rock, thats saying something.

I think about 75-80% of people think 'BIYS' is Saliva's best album, but I personally think it's 'Every 6 Seconds'. There is just too much of a leaning towards Nickelback type radio-rock on 'BIYS' that bothers me a little. When it worked really well (EG: 'Always') it was great, but there was also a lot of average tracks on that album I thought.

Tom, don't worry mate, you are not alone with regards to hard-rock... I'm with ya buddy & there is nothing wrong with that at all. BUT your comment on each of Saliva's songs sounding different, I'm not so certain about. In fact, I'd have to say I disagree with you on the whole. In fact, that's why the extra diversity on this new album struck a positive chord with me.

Haha... That was the Aussie Dave version of Good Cop - Bad Cop. We both said the same thing very differently...

I said "I'm not so certain about. In fact, I'd have to say I disagree with you on the whole."

Atavan said "****ing bullshit man"

I hope you're not referring to Tom as a "slag" though...

Not a bad album. Fairly average, though So Long and Forever and a Day push it from "ok" to "good" for me.

Wow! Just finished my first listen.

That was great; their best since System, easily.

Thanks for the agreement on the album rating Jimmy. And that's a fair summation I suppose.

The 2 songs you have pointed out are the ones I am glad listeners are liking so far. I thought they may get some hate due to 'So Long' being Coldplay'ish & 'Forever & A Day' being cheesy. But yeah, I'm with you as I like both of them.

On revisiting of System after listening to Cinco, I think Separated Self may be my favourite Saliva song.
