awesome review, I like these guys. I don't have this album though. Is it anything like "A Winter Sunset" and "Songs of Moors and Misty Fields"?

No, it's entirely a dark folk album, it's not like their earlier symphonic doom stuff.

[quote=Crysis]Keep in mind though that this album is completely different than Songs Of Moors and Misty Fields... completely different.

Managed to snap this off of Napster a few days ago. Shame they broke up.
Anyone feel like they've heard 'Fossegrim' somewhere before?

No epic-long review . I saw your user name and was expecting a wall of description when I clicked on this. Oh well, you were still very concise with your ideas and thats what counts. I heard a sample from one song off this and I've added it to my staggeringly long list of "must buys".

Haha Wizard sorry to disappoint this time, it's that time of year where I'm pretty busy, as I'm sure you are with your new job and whatnot.
Don't worry, I expect one of my usual long reviews later this week, perhaps tomorrow.

Funny how I have some time tonight and you give me a short review hahaha.
This weekend I'm hoping to do another review (possibly another Amorphis album?). Oh, and check out Monumension by Enslaved. It's NOTHING like their newer stuff, promise!

I hope it's The Karelian Isthmus, I just got that a few days ago but have yet to listen to it *puts it on*

Will do, I've also been recommended "Frost", so I'll look into both. I dislike their newer stuff as well as Vikingligr Veldi but I will not give up on Enslaved.

This is quite good, but I like Songs of Moors a lot more.

I don't know, "Songs..." has it's own special things I like (I am pretty much in love with the first track, I have no idea why but I think it's incredible) but this is on a different level in terms of musicianship. In terms of overall awesomeness though they are both tied at 4.5's.This Message Edited On 12.10.08

I'm sure I need a few more listens of both, I just remember the second half of this being sufficiently boring.

So scared now ! I will try and have that review up this weekend. Looking forward to it. I like that album, but I could never explain why. If someone were to describe it to me I'd think it would be boring as fuck.

Album is fantastic... love the vocals. You actually don't expect black metal vocals to kick in at any point given the otherwise classic clean folk style that dominates the album. But they end up fitting in perfectly. Musically exceptional, very enjoyable listen. Also, this band has a killer logo and album cover. I'm a sucker for that stuff.
