Starless: To be fair, most of the people I talk to who enjoy The Roots haven't heard their earlier stuff like this. It's mostly around the time they were doing Rising Down or undun.

wish i could marinatchae but even the soulquarians stuff they made in the studio around the time things fall apart was recorded (like water for chocolate, voodoo, that erkya badu album) are so different than this. they really are the most unique hip hop group ever, never make the same album twice, unbelievably consistent from do you want more to now. id say common's like water for chocolate is similar to this; it was recorded and produced by members of the roots at the same studio this album was recorded at.

Sweet, I'll check out Common. And agreed hard. I've heard most of their discography and think it's really tight. I know their most recent album was mixed with divisive opinions but I really enjoyed it.
