I saw MJEX play Tower Records to promote their new album, and although it was a bit intimidating standing in the aisle of the hip hop section while Messiah J fired out rhymes literally inches from your face, he bounded around the tiny stage and even into the aforementioned aisles bursting with enthusiasm and grace. While a restrictive microphone chord tried to trip him at every opportunity, and a mic failure meant he had to steal The Expert's, he displayed a showmanship that was frantic and yet eloquent. Unfazed by technical difficulties he continued his torrent of brain-quenching lyrics as The Expert revealed a new arsenal of Morriconesque samples (Geography)and beats reminiscent of a Dangermouse and Jemini collaboration (Guess You Had To Be There). A great premiere of a great album!
