Still love this album even if it might be mostly out of nostalgia at this point, I put it on and I'm instantly transported back ten summers. I think his shtick quickly got kinda grating but this one (and The Wild Hunt probably) has a certain charm to it still.

Well I kinda dipped out when There's No Leaving Now came out, thought it was a step down and then just sorta skimmed the ones after that so maybe you're right. And at the time I was just getting sick of his singing and lyrics. Might do a random Tallest Man deep dive soon.

There's no leaving now is a slow grower, much like most of his were for me tbh, but even more so. It's more understated and reserved than his first 2, but still superb.

“Where Do My Bluebird Fly” is the best song I’ve heard in quite a while.

Still his best.

initially skipped this because i was worried it would sound too similar to the Wild Hunt, but its coarse recording quality gives it a huge edge on that album and hmmm might be his best. looks like his discog is hardcapped at 3/5 RIP

I love a lot of folk yes
Folk music in its capacity as mawkish coffee shop commodity = another story and a key distinction that this guy has been a key player in teaching an entire generation to forget

I know what you mean. P4k and the like really did a number on folk music becoming largely consumable, pop-adjacent shit with little to no variation throughout the late 00s onward. I do have to insist that this is not that, but your mind seems made up
Fwiw, I wasn’t asking out of doubting your credibility, just that I’ve never known you to enjoy anything from the genre. Blue is a great record

Possibly Fogza too (if only by virtue of it having put him off the entire rest of his discog iirc)
