This album was decent. It was not one of my favorites, i personally liked the crusade the best, as crazy as that sounds. I loved the vocals heafy did in crusade. His screams were too harsh in shogun. Everyone says crusade sounds like James Hetfield from Metallica, idk how in the hell anyone gets that outta that album. Trivium and Metallica are two totally different kinds of metal. Metallica never comes to my mind when im listening to Trivium. But Shogun was an ok album, it has some sweet riffs and some awesome solos. This album just gave me the urge to skip some of the songs, i didnt feel that with the crusade, i could put that album on and listen to it straight through and enjoy every song. my friend bought this album and I loaded it on my itunes, but i just can't listen to it. I'm not sure why, because I used to be a Trivium fan, but I think my taste has evolved... and boy am I stoked.

triviums albums may be contrived and crappy yadidyadiya, but ascendancy didnt really sound like ember, the crusade definitely didnt sound like ascendancy, and this sounds like the crusade+ascendancy

Good review. I'm glad they've taken a step back from the direction they started to take with Crusade. Their first album still blows me away, not that it was the best thing ever recorded(far from it of course), but the fact that for their first album produced it was as mature as it was for a bunch of guys whose average age was 19. Heafy is only 22 now...so there might be some stuff to look forward to.



Really haven't seen it yet though, but looks like their in the position to do something good with their next album.

Forgotten Sense Of Purpose have we? Nothing beats that albums in terms of suckitude. Worst album, metal and not of the year by far. This is pretty good actually. I thought Ascendacy would be my first and last positive expereince with the band. Fortunately not the case.
