Avenged Sevenfold is pretty poppy...but they have some pretty cool songs (granted it was more on City Of Evil than their new album). Poppyness (not a word really) doesn't really have anything to do with weather or not something is enjoyable to listen to...
p.s. the way they perform onstage and the way they dress should have absolutely not merit in a musical discussion...This Message Edited On 09.12.08

"Pop overtones, drummer seems to be more interested in twirling his drumsticks in music videos than playing drums,"
If you didn't notice it before you saw the music video then what's it even matter...it's not like he plays it differently in the video because he's twirling his drumstick.
Hah that's like saying "I don't like slash because he seems like he's more interested in smoking cigarettes than playing guitar in videos".
Sounds lame doesnt it.

I thought this was a review about Metallica? looks like a lot more A7X bashing than discussing this album :

I think 'pop' is an easy word to misunderstand. My use of the word there was to describe the mainstream, guy-girl, mtv friendly music that pollutes music today, something that's very evident in Avenged Sevenfold.
Hah that's like saying "I don't like slash because he seems like he's more interested in smoking cigarettes than playing guitar in videos".
But see Slash doesn't try hard to smoke. He just does it. Either way, it's a Metallica review, so let's proceed with discussing the merits and de-merits of the album/band.This Message Edited On 09.12.08

Good review... kid of feel tempted to post one but I still can't decide on whether it's a 4 or 4.5... and I'm afraid this will turn into another "All Hope is gone" with the reveiws that are gonna come...
And on a different note, Sevenfold is no quite poppy... but it sure is crappy.

I was aware that you were referring to mainstream, but just because something is mainstream doesn't automatically make it bad music. Unoriginal and perhaps nothing inventive yes, but it can still be enjoyable to listen to.
As far as Metallica goes...I could never really get into the band and this album definitely didn't change my mind...its not necessarily bad it just doesn't really do anything for me.

4.5, lol.

Don't disrespect the opinions of others, Balls.

I wasn't attempting to but I just find all the 4.5's remarkable since the album came out today. Maybe I was mistaken and Death Magnetic was available to torrent for some time now. Regardless, I haven't enjoyed what I heard.

^^I've had it a week at least.

Oh, ok. I understand. That would be stupid if people had just heard it today. But yeah, I've had this for a while.

Same here. Had it a week now and been listening to it practically everyday because it's fantastic and because I wanted to review it and get it out of my system in terms of a 'new album fever'.

Can't give it a 5...because it's up against Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, and The Black album...just wouldn't be fair to say it's equal to them. However...Death Magnetic is an amazing album...I really don't have any complaints.

meh, I disagree

Great album and review. 'AJFA' is still their best album though.

Ride The Lightening & Master Of Puppets are equal to me, both incredibly awesome albums. So far by my by what I'm hearing, Death Magnetic is as awesome as these two but on a slightly lesser scale compared to both RTL & MOP
