Yeah, maybe generic wasn't the right word. Dated? The fact that they've been around since '89 would help explain why their sound seems tired to me. Still need a good listen of course.

They are death metal. Viking metal isn't a concept, it's a sound; a schism of folk metal. These guys (unless they've done a complete 180) are not viking metal. Neither are Amon Amarth while we're on the issue.
Wasn't going to say anything but Balls' continual misapplication of the term got to me.

I was gonna say, Amon are barely Viking, it's only their themes, otherwise they sound like melo-death with some heavy thrash influence, something like that.

I agree about the over-labelling of bands but if you're going to put a band into one niche at least make sure it's the right one. Especially when you misuse it in your summary.

It can also give people the wrong idea and they'll end up liking something less cause it's not what it was "supposed" to be.

It's not like I didn't set myself up for this so no biggie. It sucks being hyper because you lose rational thinking. And here on my reviews that i've been most excited to write about are the ones that i've been caught with my pants down.

It doesn't affect the review at all though. Don't overreact Balls, it's fine. I just had to clarify is all. The review is fine because you talk about the sound and you do it within the proper context, you only really mention "viking" stuff in precursory statements and when making comparisons. Don't sweat it.
