i can kinda see where you're coming from with the whole "kids playing dress up" thing, but i don't see how it's any more absurd than your average viking/black metal band, and at least TGA aren't trying to make out that they ARE from the 50s, there's just a lot of nostalgic lyrics. i guess the reason i don't see it as a problem is because it seems honest here, like they really do have a passion for 50s music, rather than using it as some kind of gimmick.
but yeah, i guess its a matter of personal taste whether you like this more or less than their previous stuff. i love the old stuff too, but i kinda like the subdued sound they're going with now. and i'm kinda surprised, because the backlash over at punknews hasn't been that great now that these guys are getting radio play! This Message Edited On 09.08.08

I could go on and on about TGA, they're not fake and are absolutely amazing.....I've seen them 9 times and each show was unbelievable. I don't review bands or pick music apart, I just know what my ears like- and they love TGA. Please go to sideonedummy.com and look at TGA's site- click on "press" and see all that has been said about them. The link below is a fantastic interview FuseTV did with them. For some reason the interview starts in the middle. When it starts to play click on the top picture on the right, of Brian and it'll start at the beginning. It'll show they're not fake, or playing dress up, at all. They are true and honest. Not here to make friends, not here to get huge and famous, they're here because the love what they do and have fun doing it.

Again, not calling the band fake. I just don't buy into the whole "we're nostalgic lol" thing. It seems borderline pretentious to me.

Majorly over-hyped. Too samey and too boring, especially for a "punk" band. Yes,I'm not saying it's not punk, I'm just saying it's not what I look for in a punk album.

somehow agree with adam that this is over-hyped and boring. But I don't care about it being punk or not, it's just that those songs, while being really catchy and everything, don't do much for me. and there really is a bit too little variation to it.

It's good because it's not just punk. It's good because they basically made a punk take on Springsteen.

might go up to a 4 for me too soon. there's just a couple boring songs though. plus, the songwriting is a bit too repetitive

Have you heard Sink or Swim? Its a little more varied. This Message Edited On 12.16.08

Saw these guys in concert awhile ago (with rise against, alkaline trio, and thrice), went in with fairy low expectations cause they seemed fairly out of place with who they were with, but damn. They blew me away, and I totally enjoyed every second of it.
