Many years have passed since this review was written but recently Varg Vikernes has made some videos about the 'inner circle' and stuff. It seems that Enslaved were a part of the inner circle (had nothing to do with the crimes and burnings though) but as Euronymous continuously tightened the criteria, Enslaved were seen as an Immortal rip-off (somehow). Emperor were seen as a Burzum/Darkthrone rip-off at the time as well. Anyway, it's sad that Enslaved's contribution to metal is so overlooked. Being called "Opeth of Black Metal" is disrespectful for a band that created and defined a brilliant new sound and genre.

I would take anything Varg says with a grain of salt to be honest.
