how does i enjoy music

of course i know that. there's been not only just 'quite a few,' but actually MANY, good albums this year. in fact, 2008 so far has been one of the best years in music for a while, if you ask me. but have there been many greatest-albums-of-all-time this year? no. but this album specifically probably deserves to be in that category(and if not, then it's still very close to it)

chan. your little comment basically amounts to telling me that if someone sets a plate of dogshit in front of me at dinnertime, i should just eat it and learn to enjoy it. that kind of attitude is what allows mediocrity in art to prevail. i'm not going to go down the lazy path of the lumpenprole and accept that anything can be good, or even great. doing so is a disservice to those works which actually do exhibit excellence. i don't know if you like crap, and if you do, i don't care - go right ahead. it does not affect me. but to say that recognizing quality in a fair manner keeps me from enjoying music to the fullest is just plain idiotic. if anything, i appreciate music more due to the fact i don't ingest dogshitThis Message Edited On 08.31.08

To address some comments. This is a thread for the mods. It's to report problems and ask questions, not poke fun at behavior or try to be funny. Also, it's a dialogue between users and mods, as well as users suggesting things that would modify a mod's behavior. The dialogue we have going here right now, doesn't really satisfy those things, and is more about poking yet more fun at what's going on. The problem is that Elim and others have engendered an attitude that promotes spamming, pointless joking and whatever. The community thread is the location for all errant discussion. Posting the same picture over and over is even spamming within the standards of a spam thread and merits banning. Eliminator's antics haven't "gone too far" in the sense that they cut deep, but by virtue of their sheer repetition and flippant disregard for baseline user conduct on this site. The point is to be a gadfly, which is going to get him banned. Because this is a community, online as it may be, the behavior of one effects the behavior of all, and Elim acts as a bad apple in a lot of cases. We're going to push the reset button on the community thread. There will be a new one up sometime midweek. I just hope that people will behave properly on a forum-wide level and respect basic spam rules of the site once that thread it reestablished. Until then, this is like sitting in the corner. This is like the whole football team running laps because one person couldn't get a blocking pattern right. Everybody is going to shut up and not spam this thread or any other, unless you have legitimate questions or concerns or whatever. Petition the punishment if you like, but do so in an ordered controlled manner and not a goofy, jocular spamming manner.

iarescientists, how can you possibly listen to (for example) an album like this - and yet not see that music deserves to be taken seriously as a form of artistic expression? is it because you want to think everything is equally 'good' or 'bad,' that it all comes down to personal opinion, and everyone's opinion is equally valid? this is what's easy and comfortable to believe, isn't it? don't misunderstand. it doesn't make me angry if you really just don't get it. but if so, i do feel sorry for you, seeing as you must be familiar with only a very shallow form of experiencing music. go ahead, call me a tool. i don't care. i don't have to care. your mindset obviously throws you into the gutter all by itself - and i'm not one to kick someone when they're down. keep sucking the scum off the surface; i'm more than happy to be the one left with the quality beneath

i had to take this off my shuffle because the songs separated sound bad compared to the album as a whole, and it's ruining the album for me

I haven't even gotten through this completely but I think it might be my favorite album this year. For some reason it feels like the whole thing was slaved over and emotion was put in every note.

I know that sounds stupid but idk that's what I'm getting.

The synth swell at 1:16 into "The First Rain and You" is nearly the same in pitch, timbre, and sustain as that of NIN's "Leaving Hope" at 1:14 and again at 1:34. Also the pizzicato strings that are delicately laid out on the track have eerie similarities. Weird.

I really wanna give this a 4.5 and say it's my favorite album this year, but the length was really a problem the last time I tried listening to it.

Maybe it just because I was working out or something I dunno. This album is probably best listened to on a long car ride.
