I've only heard this, Awaken the Guardian, and No Exit. This is easily my favorite of the three.

"I wouldn't call Parallels epic at all, but it's awesome. It was my introduction to this band."
I found it to be the my introduction too. But seriously, not epic? What about "The Eleventh Hour?" The amazing guitar solo in "Life in Still Water?" Pretty much every second of "Eye to Eye" and "Point of View?" Even "We Only Say Goodbye" is in such a brilliant minor chord that it just sounds completely epic. I remember you mentioned Don't Follow Me as one of your favorites, and that song is awesome when Ray Alder sings it live.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said there, but it just didn't feel epic to me. Obviously, "The Eleventh Hour" comes damn close.
@Yazz: Parallels is like this if the proggier parts were traded for catchy choruses.

Maybe I should tone down my use of the word 'epic' then. lol I'll just say 'f'ing amazing.'

The production seems kind of thin and dated to me on all of their releases but I mean...they're all older than I am so maybe they are.

Well, Parallels also begins their run of well-produced albums. Have you heard the Arch/Matheos albums or the last few Redemption releases?
Maybe I should tone down my use of the word 'epic' then. lol I'll just say 'f'ing amazing.' That'll work. To me 'epic' has to have more highs and lows and it has to feel like the music is taking you somewhere. Paralllels doesn't do that for me the way Guardian or even Pleasant Shade do.

This, APSoG and Disconnected are worthy of being called "epic" to me. I could see why you'd say that about Parallels too though. Besides what you mentioned ("Eleventh Hour" especially), I love the way those first shimmering guitar notes and really the whole intro of "Leave the Past Behind" sets the mood for everything else to come. It's a great opening. And then of course "The Road Goes On Forever" feels like the both closing of a chapter and the continuation of a never-ending journey, as paralleled (!) by its lyrics. Amazing lyrics on the whole album. It's no wonder Matheos kept writing almost everything after that.
It really is quite epic when you look at it.

I love the Arch / Matheos album. And I've heard the middle three Redemption albums. I love the Fullness of Time but The Origins of Ruin and Snowfall on Judgment Day didn't do as much for me. I kind of think they're over produced...haha.

Perhaps you didn't get the remasters hehe. They sound great, especially Parallels.

I know, man. It's so sad. How is this even the same guy? He still does a good job altering the melodies live for the most part though. APSOG era was his peak.
