Sigur Ros won't be immune, though it would have deserved the top position, there are enough people who dislike (or "don't get") Post Rock. and hell, it even got a pretty mediocre rating of about 7/10 from pitchfork...

yes, I think Portishead has the best chances to get #1 right now, nbot because it's that good, but because there won't be many who really dislike it.

to Esoteric: Apart from the Bloody Panda part of the Kayo Dot/Bloody Panda split EP (which I didn't enjoy that much), this is the first funeral doom album I've listened to and I love it right now. definitely one of this year's best albums, though I still have to listen to it a few times to form an eventual opinion.

A double album in the genre of funeral doom can be tricky.
Ha ha, that's putting it mildly. I've never heard these guys but I'm trying to expand my funeral doom beyond just Longing for Dawn. I tried out some Ahab last night and wasn't too excited by it.

This album is way too long!

Good though.

Ahab was great when I first heard it, but it gets old really fast. You probably alraedy know what I'm going to say, but check out Worship, Ataraxie (only their first album), Mournful Congregation, and this Esoteric album.

Good revieew Ras. I'm not that big of a Doom fan although i've reviewed 6 or 7 influenced bands including lost ones but i'll find this later regardless and hope it does something for me.

Subconscious wasn't my favorite album, but how does it relate to their earlier works?

It's a really disturbing album. I love it. But I coul not listen to it 10 times in a day. I would be too confused. Those 20 minutes epic funeral doom songs are so wicked.

So I just drove through a snowstorm while listening to this album from start to finish. Holy fuck, I was absolutely floored by the many wonderful layers and ideas these guys put forth. Just simply wowed!

I just can't believe doom like this exists. From the stuff you've exposed me to, doom albums have a samey feel (consistent if you're offended by that statement hahaha). These guys just know how to speed it up, slow it down, pysch you out, etc. in the perfect way. Thanks for showing me this dude. I think I've found my new fav doom album.
