Hehe, it's certainly the impression I got from checking their wikipedia page. The reception for this album speaks differently. (part of the reason I checked it out) Infact, Sputnik's score is the lowest score it recieved from critics.

I can't understand someone giving this less than 4. I can't...the music and vocals are spot on, on every track. But then, it's difficult for people to like such a very realistic take on old, old folk. I'm not talking Bob Dylan folk, I'm talking 19th century folk.

My friend is actually a huge fan of theirs but me, not so much. Why?

Really? They sound to me like a cross between Fleet Foxes and Avi Buffalo. Which is weird why I don't like them. :P

But still, I much prefer Fleet Foxes of Grizzly Bear.

Gotta disagree with you planewreck.

As a folk band, Fleet Foxes are far better, though Grizzly Bear are more creative.

It is by todays standards. Very rare to get such a raw sounding folk.
Awesome avatar by the way.

Yeah, it's gritty fluff. ;-)

What I mean by 'raw' is; authentic, not strong.

I loved this album so much. Blue Ridge Mountain has the coolest chorus I've ever heard...

This is better than anything I've heard by Grizzly Bear (who I don't get the fuss about at all). However while there are some excellent even great songs on this there are others that don't fill in quite so well. Because of that I might give it a 3.5 as a 4 is normally a record I can listen to all the way through. So it has been hyped a bit too much, but at least it has some good music on it unlike most hyped records.

Great album and I'm going to mirror your thoughts about Grizzly Bear but about Band Of Horses.... No sir, I don't get them.

Yeh Band of Horses haven't overly impressed me either. Some nice sounding songs but not sure they are more than that. I'd put Fleet Foxes more in line with other 'folk rock' (if that's what we call it) from Great Lake Swimmers or Local Natives.
