I'm digging the instrumentals mostly but man Heroin Chic is fucking awful.

When the best lyrics in your song are "nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah", you know you've written a terrible song.

I honestly have no idea what to rate this. One of the weirdest and most uneven albums I've ever heard.

I feel like there was good guitar melodies but the drumming was so boring and lacking in the usual sweet fills, the vocals here were unbearably nasally and off-key at points, and then the lyrics were so sad. Not heart wrenching sad but more like retarded gangster sad.

Anathema in 2021: We left Death-Doom for Rock and Pop and we haven't looked back!
Paradise Lost in 2021: We left Death-Doom for the mainstream for a bit but we realized Doom was better but we still don't wanna fully commit to Death-Doom.
My Dying Bride in 2021: We tried some mainstream shit one time, didn't work out.

pl/mdb: we tried to release ourselves from the confines of our genre but realized metal fans are the most conservative fanbase in any genre.
by the way, there's nothing "mainstream" about this album.

This album is one of the best MDB albums, it's such a unique piece of work. Der Uberlebende is absolutely godlike. Under Your Wings and Into Your Arms is just stunning. I love this album so much.
Like Gods of the Sun and The Light at the End of the World blow in comparison to this one.
Also this is extremely experimental and is no way shape or form even close to trying to be mainstream.

Der Uberrideshare is great but there are way too many misses to be anywhere near MDB's best stuff. Fair play, though, Gods of the Sun and Light at the End aren't in that conversation either
For Lies I Sire is the mad underrated Bride record

You're idea of mainstream must be very narrow if you think this album isn't that.
Electronic and Ambient are pretty mainstream genres. There is Metal sure but it has a much deeper foray into Electronic music.
"pl/mdb: we tried to release ourselves from the confines of our genre but realized metal fans are the most conservative fanbase in any genre."
If they had made better albums nobody would have complained dude.

the only complaint i have for this album at all is the censoring in heroin chic (which is actually, otherwise, an absolutely awesome song). i get why they did that though.
the whore, the cook, and the mother is another masterpiece song. this album is top 3 MDB for me, easily. the other two are Turn Loose the Swans and Songs of Darkness, Words of Light unless you consider Trinity an album which would push Songs off the top 3.

I always thought this album is underrated af. Like its predecesor it feels uninspired and lazy even, but somehiw it works for the tone of the album. The Whore, The Cook and The Mother is actually one of my favorite MDB songs. Not many albums like this out there, avant-goth rock/metal with some doom metal tinges here and there
