My favourite Nile album so far. (I don't have In Their Darkened Shrines yet)

Excellent album. Possibly my favorite Nile.

I've recently bought Amongst The Catacocombs Of Nephren-Ka it's fookin' amazing. What would be their next best album to get?

In Their Darkened Shrines.
Or, at least, that's what I'd say.
I've recently gotten this, and I think I may like it more than ..Shrines.

This or Shrines. Their earlier stuff is less interesting.

What is your pick between the two, sir?

Probably this one. It has more of a brutal feel.

I think I'd pick this one, too, because it seems to have less meh tracks.

I love the video for Sacrifice Unto Sebek.

I bought this a while ago and I've been listening to it a lot lately. Cast Down the Heretic is my favorite.

I think nowadays, I'd choose In Their Darkened Shrines over this one. This one just seems to have no variety at all, barring maybe two ambient type tracks, whereas Shrines has the speedy songs, slow sludgy tracks, and that four part gargantuan title track.

Do Nile completely base their music on ancient Egypt? They are a downright brutal band and the riffs and drumming is marvellous. I have not heard much but apparently they base their music on ancient egypt...

The lyrics are based on Egyptian history, mythology etc etc.

I find it equal and at some points (production and vocals) slightly better than In their Darkened Shrines. On another note I think Dallas does most of the vocals on this album and not Shanders.
The Burning Pits of the Duat is certainly my favourite. When I first bought the album I used to listen to it 3 or 4 times in a row! According to the liner notes it took Sanders a while to put it down and it was a quite painful expererience for his hands!

I read that same thing. Something about the riffs was painful to play and it took him a long time with a lot of work to get them down.
Dallas does do most of the vocals, but I prefer that. Sanders' voice is the extremely low, disgustinbg growl, and Dallas sounds much stronger and more controlled.

I didn't really like this album when I first got it back a few weeks after it came out, but I just pulled it out recently and it sounds A LOT better to me. Some of the songs are just great but I have to disagree with the reviewer on "Lashed To The Slave Stick" being mediocre; I think it's one of the best songs on the album. Great review by the way. 3.5.
I hope Nile do something a bit more experimental with the next album. They're a very good band but it feels like there's something missing. I can't quite put my finger on what though. This Message Edited On 01.19.06

I can. It's called "variety."

This album has become one of my favorites Nile releases, just behind ATCONK.

When i first listened to Nile i thought they were one of those typical boring Death Metal bands, but i liked them . But then after listening to them more they're actually pretty technical.
