Eh, I didn't care for them too much for them when I first heard them in 2000. I was 14 and dumb then. Now I think they were talented in almost every aspect of the word. Then I began maturing and fell in love with this music. Maybe if they never broke, we wouldn't have The Mars Volta.

Haven't listened to this album in some time, but I can still hear the bass line for Quarantined in my head, amazing song, amazing band.

Good review, and a great album. I've been listening to this inside and out for the past several weeks. Favorites definatly are Arcarsenal, Pattern Against User, One Armed Scissor, Sleepwalk Capsules, Enfilade, its all great.

hey, you, that guy that asked whats up with the "mother leapard"...

the the surface meaning of the song is about a kidnapping(obviously), but it's (perhaps) a metaphor for drugs... it could be a metaphor for how when you get heavily into drug use, the drugs can, in a sense, hold you hostage...

ever heard of "riding the H-Train" (heroin)?
thats what i immediately picked up on
"Sacrifice on railroad tracks
freight train coming
unconsious tied and gagged
frieght train coming"

anyway, about the lepard, that "I'll be the Hyena" part (I think) is that when she sees him or he sees her. he'll be the one laughing...as hyena's have a tendancy to "sound" like they are laughing while they eat...or in this matter the guy has done something horribly wrong to the cub..or he has some devious plot and is snickering about it.

Hyenas also have a habit of attacking large cats' cubs, lions and LEOPARDS included. They'll sneak in when the mothers aren't watching and drag them away.

there you go. That's why i love ATD-I, everything ties together. i don't think most people realize the depth of these songs.

Cool. I never really thought about it before.

When Bixler stutter screams after the breakdown, it makes me have goosebumps.

I remember my friend threw this album on at this kitchen I used to work at, and it changed my life. ATDI is easily my favorite band. When you listen to them, you get so many vivid images in your head. You make stories. You think. You feel like Cedric is singign right to you and no one else. This album is what music should be. Passionate, catchy, engaging, passionate, innovative, and passionate. I want ATDI to reform so I can see them live. I saw their live videos and its just insane the energy they have. Quarantined literaly inspired me to take up bass. This is my favorite ATDI album. The best part of the entire album IMO (as if I could pick one) is right after Invalid Letter Department when that huge riff comes in and Cedric starts screaming for like 18 measures. Oh my god it almost makes you wanna tear up. The worse part is Mannequin Republic. I can't even begin to like that song, it's not just the worst song of the album but one of the worst ATDI songs ever. Although this is my favorite album, my favorite song is Lopsided. I've lost and rebought it at least 5 times, which sucks because it's an expensive album. I can listen to this album as intently as I did 4 years ago, it's just perfect in every way. Fuck at the drive in is good. I don't know what else to say. If you don't own this album, do yourself a favor and go pick it up.This Message Edited On 05.04.06This Message Edited On 05.04.06

Yeah, this CD is great. The first CD I got of their's was "This Station Is Non-Operational", and I hated it. But then, I got Vaya, and loved it. So I decided to check it out. Now it's one of my favorite albums.

nice work on the "Enfilade" anaylsis, makes sence too because Cedric and Omar have been known Heroin users from their roots.

as it was for me. it was first hard to get used to the vocals. after listening to it for more than 2 plays. LOVE TO MY EARS. I have never seen such a band that can attract you through sketchy vocals. This cd will go down in the books as the best non-mainstream cd ever created.

It's funny how nobody likes Cedric's singing voice first time around but it gradually grows on them. First time I heard him I thought he was the worst singer ever but now I've begun to regard him as one of the best singers ever next to Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan and Thruston Moore

Still don't have this album, but when I get it I expect it will be one of my favourite albums ever next to 'Frances the Mute', 'In Utero', 'Daydream Nation', and 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'.
