Ok I take it back. After further digging it turns out that even Spin and Pulse slated the album. I guess I'd only ever read good reviews of it but seems like plenty of critics were unhappy with it.

It was just a shitty situation for the band to be in. The RS review even said that the band missed the positive feelgood vibes of No Rain...which was a song about struggling with bipolar disorder that apparently few realised. This band is misunderstood on every level.
