"Back to School sucks"
That song single handedly put me off Deftones for practically 20 years.

Every time i thought of listening to Deftones that song and it's videoclip came to mind and i would just nope.
As for the album, right now i do feel like it tries to do several things at the same time. For now it's not making me love it, but let's see how a few more listens change that.

Best songs are Change, Elite and Bath

I like deftones but I don’t like this album. Am I gonna die? “Digital Bath” is the easy highlight, and it wouldn’t dare step to something like “cherry waves” or “kimdracula”. “back to school” is awful

Yes, this is how you die.

But yeah, there are at least 3 better Deftones albums, maybe 4.

Back to School wasn't on the OG release, it's not to be included when rating this album.

Woah there, digital bath is top 5 deftones. Back to school is not og wp release. Feiticeira, Change, Passenger, Rx-Queen are also among their best songs

Yeah I’ll admit “digital bath” is pretty amazing. But I liked this band once they really dug their heels in with the sort of dreamy vibe. I mean it’s always counterposed with heaviness and it’s not like they’ve released a shoegaze album but SNW and KNY have more of the stuff I like and discard a lot of the stuff I don’t like

This has obvious highlights and more than a handful of tracks that do nothing for me (middle stretch, Passenger is boring and I do not like Maynard’s vocals in general). It’s a mid-tier deftones album, I much prefer the three that came after it

Elite is making this album hard to get into.
He just screams: "when you're ripe you bleed out of control", for 4 minutes straight, with an annoying distortion to boot.
Not gonna lie, some of these songs make me wonder how this is considered their best effort to date.

2001 Grammy: Best Metal Act, with song Elite
for what its worth
That main riff is a razor sharp scalp ripper.

Lol @ thinking the Grammys are even slightly relevant

thus the "for what its worth" MR. double post
I personally think that song is awesome, but if you are "confused, you'll know when you riiiipe"

Yeah, the grammys suck my man.
As for the riff, it's OK but it doesn't save the song.
I mean it does stay in your head because he repeats that phrase a million times, but I see myself skipping elite in the future if this keeps up.

LMAO...holy shit...it just means it got some global recognition...and yes on metal acts Grammy awards sometimes they suck, and others don't...
but I thought when someone says "for what its worth" it means it doesn't means much...

I like me some heavy deftones songs, but elite has never done it for me. Just feels too repetitive and don’t dig the vocals on that track.
