Good choice also. Yes just has such an infectious melody and the alternating 7/8,8/8 time signature grooves hard

I do dig the chaotic messiness of the vocals on here, adds to the uneasiness for me. Especially on Yes, ifwhiteamerica... and 4st 7lb. Gives the album a really unique edge.

yea I used to think it’s hard to bump this front to back because of how bleak it is, but man it’s vocally, lyrically and musically so tight, it’s almost therapeutic

One of those albums that very much reads like it was written by someone not long for this world

so true, unfortunately

being exposed to something so dark as a teen likely changed me in irreversible ways, probably the only album I feel that way about now (to the point I cannot actually listen to it)

Yeah the darkness is what really drew me into this initially, it does add a lot to this album though it’s obviously incredibly morbid.

Also the US mix of this actually rules. Cool to hear it again in a fresh way.

I didn't hear the album until I was 23, but even then, it still did a number on me mentally. To this day, I still can't believe James actually went along with some of Richey's lyrics -- especially on 4st 7lb and The Intense Humming of Evil -- much less SANG them. But apparently he did tell Richey to do a second draft of Intense Humming, because the original version was even more disturbing. Can't even imagine how that one would've been, lol

Nicky also must've been in a pretty dark place at the time, as he wrote a good chunk of Of Walking Abortion and Mausoleum, and those songs are pretty fucked up too
