Great album. However, after listening to it (I only have twice so far) i don't remember what most of the songs really sounded like...I think ITNE is better than this currently, but that took a few months for me to really love it, so maybe with time I'll like this more.

With Strength I burn is fantastic though.

On a separate note the song names on this album are awesome.

This album destroys, as does ITNE.

I need to get me some more Symphonic Black Metal, I can't stop listening to this album....

Mods choose you depending on how much you review, and how good they are, I think.

Don't quote me on it though

Excellent album, still one of the best after all these years.

One of my favourite albums of all time! ITNE also owns hard too. I found on this album that they refined some of the chaos from ITNE and channeled it into their atmosphere alot more.

between this album and In the Nightside Eclipse, i'd say this one has better songs -they're more varied, creative, and unique overall- but i still have to say that as an *album*, Nightside is superior

This album is amazing! The reason I give it 4.5 instead of 5 is because the production has too much background noise, making it a bit hard to hear what's going on. I know that's standard for the genre -- so maybe it's just me.

Album is un-god like. In a good way, my favorite Emperor album although I haven't heard Prometheus yet.

Dont worry, Prometheus cant even compare to this. I do think In the Nightside Eclipse is a little better than this though.

I can't really compare anymore, I lost the album more than 1 1/2 years ago so i'm pissed. Need to rebuy but the vocals, melodies and keyboards are some of the best i've heard in any black metal record.

I agree. Ihsahn is so much better on this and ITNE than he is on the later albums. His vocals are pretty bad in his solo band too.

Ratings gone up. It was hard to swallow at first, but now at least it doesnt leave a bad taste in my mouth. The album's length seems to fit better now too.

Still not great

I can't get into this band either. I sort of like what I hear at first, but then it just starts to grate and annoy me.

Angel,

It took me awhile to really understand what was going on through the fuzz. The production is low but matches the music perfectly. My favourite black metal album ever.

Alsvartr (The Oath), Ye Entrancemperium, Ensorcelled by Khaos, The Loss and Curse of Reverence are all killer tracks off this.
