I rather liked this album. Not quite as good as their older records, as it was less punky. I agree wholeheartedly with a good amount of their lyrics so it works for me. :D

Anti-Flag isn't BAD, as much as it's just a one trick pony, the music isn't the best but at the same time it isn't the worst, and i say that if they are still making anti nationalistic songs, after a good 16 years (not counting the 4 years when they didn't play) then of course they aren't going to be that original

That "Justin Nane" bit was classic.

Everything after Underground Network has been absolute tripe. Still fairly entertaining live, but they need to stop deluding themselves into thinking they're somehow socially relevant.

This is really crappy, they need to quit with the political commentary.

"Spit In The Face" is a near literal copy of "Reaction" by From Ashes Rise. The sad thing is that it was of the few songs that I liked on this record, even though it's kind of ruined for me now.

I'm sorry, being signed to a major label does not make you any less principled. Are you aware that 10% from every Anti-Flag cd sold on Amazon goes to Amnesty International? With a major label behind you, you can sell more cds and in the case of anti-flag, this means donating more money. They're on a major label because they believe strongly in their message and want it to reach as many people as possible. While I'm not saying that being on an independant label can limit a band, logic tells you you've got a better chance of reaching more people if you're given a bigger platform. Plus, Anti-Flag run their own independant record label as well, so the fact they're on RCA doesn't make them any less principled. Punk's dead anyway - all punks look the same and act the same then go on to bleat about how they're outsiders? I'm sorry, but when every punk has to wear a uniform to be accepted, that's when it's gone down the pan.

Also, this album isn't just about how America sucks. It's a deeply personal album. Vices is about living with who you are - when Chris 2 sings about his father being in jail for molesting kids, that's not a metaphor, it's true. Go West is about idealism and the failure of personal belief. Listen a little closer, and you'll realise that there's more to Anti-Flag than what you've given them credit for. I think a lot of "punks" tend to dislike them because they've attempted to push the boundaries of a stunted genre, but isn't breaking the rules and doing things your way exactly what punk is about anyway?

dravenvalentine: I am glad you have taken a personal effort to learn the history of everything about Anti-Flag and I'm not sure if that was a stab at my review or another person, but regardless you are completely missing the point (even with your own argument). You say the thing about the major label, but you still fail to recognize that they donate only a portion of what they make off the albums, and a huge chunk still goes to the record label. What you said essentially told me they are nice guys.

okay, what?

as for the rest of what you said, it's all about personal interpretations, opinions, and the fact my review had to be concise so not every detail of the album was included.

Lyrically the album is actually very personal and emotional. I just think it doesn't sound at all like them, they should have released these ideas through a side project.

WOW this is ridiculous if you do not like the band/album then don't come here! Do you really have nothing better to do?? I came here to see an honest good review of the album and I got that above. I don't want to see all you other people down here crying about how bad this album sucks. It's all opinion and if your opinion is that you don't like this band then just leave! You can cry about how much they have sold out but they are just trying to reach out to more people.... if you want to see a decent band that sold out go check out Green Day!
