You get the point tho. They advanced alot after this. This is a very raw more straightforward fast album just like kill or scream. Same thing. Blessed and covenant offer so much more musically.

I never want to listen to this, because Coroner exists...i'm a bad person.

'This is basically their kill em all compared to ride and master or their scream compared to human or symbolic.'
Not sure those parallels completely work, I get that you're trying to say this is a relatively simplistic release in comparison to what followed - but I wouldn't go as far as that. I don't think this is primitive, although regardless of whether it is (or isn't), when something doesn't stack up re technical chops it can still be a more satisfying listen regardless. MA's direction after this one leaves me somewhat cold.

I can confirm those parallels don't work very well

True, well said.
Ride and Master are way better than KEA though.

Right I mean this is the raw debut I dont see why this is considered their best work when kill or scream isnt considered the best metallica or death work. Just using a example. I deff perfer ride master and the later death records. And deff perfer blessed and covenant to this also. There alot more dynamics on blessed and covenant. It's not just break neck speed all the way. Better production on the 2 follow up albums and I perfer David's depper vocals on those as well. To me their just better albums in every way. The ride and master is blessed and covenant to me and this is the kill em all. Huge leap forward after this.

This is really consistent tho. The back half is damn near just as good as the first. Damnation, blasphemy, evil spells etc.

of the pre-1990 "classics" this is the least evolved from thrash, which is why i think in retrospect it doesnt sound nearly as "fresh" as the two that followed it.
however, the cultural impact of this album alone is enough to place it high up in the pantheon, not to mention it really does rule. it sounds like proto-death though because like half the riffs are just thrash riffs over blasts.

Pretty sure Immortal Rites was in heavy rotation on Headbanger's Ball.

yeah this album was huge idk why youd argue any different.
|

Hmmm. I don’t know about that certainly in Europe ‘Headbangers Ball’ wasn’t common place until about ‘92.
