Undeniably great album, but I can’t even bring myself to listen to them since the revelations about Scott. I guess I just can’t separate the art from the artist in this case, not when the lyrics and music are such a clear extension of him.

actually you know what i surprisingly don't give a shit when i just wanna vibe to the music

Yeah same this is dark music coming from dark people. One of them turns out to be a total pos? No surprise there. No reason to tarnish the whole group because of one member

Even the group say it's tarnished for them so why wouldnt it be for some fans. It doesnt have to be for you of course, and i do seperate art from artist in a few cases but for me whos listened to them for 25 plus years and know what they stand for or supposedly stood for etc I just can't listen to them cos it fking killed me. Its too close to home, also knowing the dude, knowing his friends more so but even if I didn't....
Personally, its more the lyrical side.I cant sing along to Scotts outpourings anymore knowing what he became/has become/was hiding Even though I still have faith in him to fking sort himself out however fking that takes.

i havent had the urge to listen to neurosis for awhile now but i dont think its because of the scott kelly situation. i mean i dont have an issue listening to the stuff he did with mastodon. in fact i was just listening to diamond in the witch house earlier today and didnt give it a second thought.

idk man i’ve just always taken their stuff and interpreted it in a way that applies to my life. like for me i dont think something like i can see you will lose any of its effect on me because ive never really thought about the people who created it if that makes sense.
but if what he did ruined their work for some people, i can understand that.

Yeah I get that too man, like I said I wish I could get past it. I had it come on from a you tube algorithm in the gym and I tried and it just killed me.Jist so utterly gutted, heartbroken, disappointed in someone I held so high and had also got to know personally the last 7 years or so but even if I hadnt I still think I'd struggle.
|

in your scenario deez, yeah that's rough man and understandable. i never gave much heedance to neurosis lyrical messages. also nowhere near a diehard fan of the band. i feel ya dawg, thats some fucking bullshit

‘How the fk have you stayed away from it? Was everywhere.’
Idk music sometimes exists in this weird detached creator-less vacuum for me, which might actually help in a situation like this come to think of it. I don’t really read up on artists all that much, only the music. I manage to avoid 99% of the personal stuff (usually only Sput makes me aware - surprised I missed it here though). What Dominion said is similar to how I usually feel anyway, so hopefully this won’t spoil their music. For you the situation is very different if you know the guy personally, so commiserations because that’s rough.

With dom on this one.
Obviously what Scott did and/or continues to do was/is heinous and absolutely inexcusable.
But the way I see it, what this band accomplished and what their music means to me is far bigger than the wrongdoings of any one person.

I agree in theory but the lyrics are just a big a part of anything this band has done for me and I cannot hear/sing along with someone who's done what he's done. Its always harder for me to swallow /ignore/separate when it's a vocalist

Yeah, if you have connected to someone's lyricism in a meaningful way, then it will always be way tougher. Especially if you also identify with a band's ethos or what you previously thought they stood for as a collective etc. And it definitely is more difficult with vocalists generally, for sure. That human element is so much harder to ignore.
