Congrats on using the word discombobulated without sounding like a douche.
I pretty much agree with this review but I'm just not as harsh with my rating. I think DEP were stuck with this one, not sure of the direction they were heading in, hence the mixture of 1. Typical DEP insanity 2. electronic experimentation, and 3. pop-metal tendencies.
I still enjoyed it to a fair degree and I've liked this band since before Miss Machine came out. In terms of production, Nick, you should check this blog by Ben Weinmen. http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2007/11/07/guest-blog-the-dillinger-escape-plans-benjamin-weinman/

Yeah, Grimbo, I asked the same question.

Maybe people will start to view it less harshly when they stop narrowing down what DEP should sound like (i.e. every album = CI).

I was hyped for this, but was extremely dissapointed

I actually really like the cover art. It reminds me a lot of Dark Side of the Moon. The geometric/symmetric aspects of the cover art sort of complement some aspects of DEP's music.
If you combine this album's art along with Colors, you get DSOTM. Whether that was intentional or not is another story.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the artwork. Not everything has to have a million things going on in order to be good.
The album is enjoyable, but it's disappointing.
I'm not giving it a rating until I give it a few more spins, but I am kind of annoyed by the fact that I dropped 15 bucks on this.
And the people complaining about the absence of Chris. Gil Sharone is a great drummer, don't forget that.

Dillinger's ideas are so dumb. I never got into this band and I just relized why.
|
| |
it's kind of like they gave 50 gnomes and midget elves speed, finger limbering steroids and some instruments, recorded each gnome/elf for 4 seconds and turned it into a song.

Gil Sharone is amazing, but Chris wrote most of the music and all of the electronic stuff. This Message Edited On 11.13.07

Which makes Chris better.

As a songwriter, not a drummer. I prefer Gil's style even though Chris may be technically more proficient.

I just felt like Chris was the one drummer meant for DEP.

having read through the comments, it seems i may be one of, possibly THE, first person to say this, but i think ire works is quality.
experimentatal progression, diversity, melody, insanely good musicianship, distilled agression...it's not a better dillinger, but one that is mostly as good.

^ i agree, but i think it's more of a grower. i've certainly grown to like it a little more each time i listen...

Ahhh, Ire Works. So far, better than Miss Machine, but still doesnt hold a candle to Calculating Infinity. I really just dont like Greg.

I don't mind the drums but i do miss chris.
This definitely grew on me, and I'm liking it more than miss machine. This band doesn't sound like the band that wrote calculating infinity though so I can't even compare it to that.

LOL, I love these kids ripping on Irony b/c Patton is all over it, which is the reason it's EASILY the best thing DEP ever did, CI and most definitely MM included. This album is a load of meh though.

Irony is great, but not better than Calculating. Mike Patton is the man though.
|
| |
That EP is great but it's definitely not because of Patton
