No it's not really boring it all. Listened to it last night and was enthralled all the way through. Combining a more melodeath foundation to deathcore was pretty novel when this was released and still holds up surprisingly well today. The only thing I wish was different, was that they kept the math-y/chaotic metalcore parts from their EP.

i mean they more or less all sound like the same song but just a lesser clone, it's one note as all fuck, and Medusa in particular is a goddamn slog. would be a 2 if they cut Pray for Plagues.

in a way i'm glad their early work exists because they had to find their ground somehow but MAN imagine if There Is a Hell was their DEBUT... then it's nearly non-stop hits from then on. this is a rough listen but i give it credit for giving these guys exposure and letting them develop and grow as artists. it really serves the same purpose that Pablo Honey did for Radiohead.

i think medusa might actually be my least favorite BMTH song ever, other than those awful short interludes on suicide season

eh, for its time sure. but this band would go on to do much greater things in the future. its mindblowing how huge of a step up There Is a Hell is from everything before it too. went from not breaking 2.5 on a full record to damn near a masterpiece. insane.

maybe it's just the way my taste is, first two albums don't really hit for me and then There Is a Hell is a 4.5

i know barely anyone cares about this album, but it's so hype seeing them play "i used to make out with medusa" in 2022. Never thought i see that again, such a jam and surprisingly Oli can still scream so well.
