Third album is great
I was too lenient on this album and SS when I rated them. May need to try to trudge through them again sometime to rerate

honestly hated this at first listen because it felt like such a massive departure from what I had heard prior (mostly There Is a Hell cuts) and it took at least 20 or so listens to grow to where I've got it now.

don't say I don't care; first and last track-by-track review I will write this year
Pray for Plagues - disjointed mess of a breakdown in the guise of a song that is over four minutes long for a reason I cannot determine
Tell Slater... - enjoyed this one a little more for the primary reason that it sounds like every song on Slaughter of the Soul performed at once with worse guitar tones
Braille - at some point in this track I became aware that this album has lyrics, which turned out to be a pretty unfortunate revelation. song seemed to hold itself together but i cannot remember anything outside of the outro. there was a neat ascending/descending pattern that reminded me of a protest the hero song. i think.
A Lot Like Vegas - starts and ends in short order, neat
Black&Blue - everything in this song feels like something i've already heard on this album. this is the fifth track. there was a pinch harmonic in there somewhere that i kinda liked and a chromatic lead guitar fill that i hated. song keeps stopping. and starting. and then jumping into melodeath trem picking as though nothing ever happened. what? there's a guitar solo. why? holy fucking shit that solo was lame. and of course it goes into another breakdown. i thought breakdowns were meant as deliberate inversions of a song's momentum?
Slow Dance - what is this drumbeat? weird opening, then straight into more mid-tempo at the gates vibes. instruments get the focus here and tbh they hold the floor. mid-tempo vibe suits it. oh oops, this was a 1.5 minute instrumental interlude(?) nvm
Liquor+Love Lost - i give up

Yeah, hey, this is by far the best BMTH album and a sad reminder that they could have been a great band for dxc and decided to be who they really were afterwards. AKA bullshit. Suicide Season sucks. And it took all the attitude from this without any of the impact. Pretty mad that this is so good in retrospect.
