Almost 6 years after the bluesy hard-rock of ‘Reload’, Metallica return to their thrash roots on messy 8th LP 'St. Anger'. Following the departure of bassist Jason Newsted & a stint in rehab for James Hetfield, the metal legends bring back the blistering tempos & raw aggression of their earlier work. Bob Rock's strange production is unlikely to please long-time fans, however; especially the tinny sounding drums & lack of guitar solos. At 75 minutes, it's terribly overlong & cannot help but get repetitive... Especially having the singles front-loaded & with no true ballad or instrumental. Recommended Tracks: St. Anger, Some Kind of Monster & Purify.

Hmm..going out on a limb but it may be that metallica was one of the music gods back in the day but they got hit pretty hard with
criticism when they tried something new and now they are confused andlooking for revival. They need to take all their albums and
the criticism and channel it right to make that much needed comeback album for themselves and metal. Cause I'm gonna be
pissed if pop takes completely over in five years cause metal bands are dying and rock is staying consistent. Everything is shot
down that comes out of these genres, and yet pop grows on because of fan girls and parents who have no idea what music is. I
don't mean all pop but the ones pulling the same crapppoison did with boy bands is disappointing to music. This is a good review
though.
