Fear of a Blank Planet is totally worth getting...
I'm a little bummed that iTunes hasn't put this or the new Riverside album up on their store yet... I may have to actually make a trip to Best Buy or something.

you can order the album from porcupinetree.com...
and if you don't want to wait (like me) you can then download off the PT website.

Can't wait till I get my hands on this. The selftitled instrumental is very good but from there it just gets better.
For me the gem on this has to be Cheating the Polygraph. I dig just about everything from the drumbeat which is like so wtf?!, the soothing vocals in the verses to the crushing dissonant chorus parts.

the acoustic guitar on Normal reminds me heavily of Over the Hills and Far Away by Led Zeppelin, does anybody else have that impression too? btw, the explosion somewhere in the middle of Normal was one of the most surprising moments on an album, I've heard resently. I nearly got a heart attack when I heard it the first time completely unprepared ;)
awesome album overall, on the same level as fear of a blank planet.

Great review btw, and I have to agree FOABP is slightly better than this, but what did
you expect from the B-sides of the album, still from PT this is better then a lot of the
music released today that is supposed to be stand alone. Well I guess they aren't
necessarily B-sides but they were written in the same session so it is as close to b-
sides without being legit b-sides. Well at any rate it is definitely worth grabbing and
then listening
with FOABP since they are so closely related. This Message

I'd have to go back and listen to this EP together with FOABP once again, but I think I was of the opinion that if you took the last three tracks on the latter and mixed in with the last three tracks on the former, you'd have one helluva album. I don't know why the best tracks weren't selected from these sessions and put on FOABP, or why they didn't just record one more huge piece and release a well-balanced double album. Either way, this band and these sessions are everthing that is 'right' about modern music. Long Live Steve Wilson.
