"The Other" is such a powerful song.
This album deserves its five stars. The only thing you could complain about would be the length of the songs, but if you're going to get into Isis you have to like things that build, cause that's what they're about. If you like four minute formulaic songs, you will prolly not like Isis, but if you love soundscapes and hearing things thicken, you'll love them.
Oceanic is beautiful.

Isis are great and I think that Oceanic and Panopticon are probably on an equal footing as far as quality goes. It's really cool on this album to hear the softer tracks like Maritime, and the guest vocals on Weight make it one of my favourite Isis tracks. Then you get the typical Isis tracks like The Beginning & The End and From Sinking, so it's a record you can listen through without it getting tedious.

The Other is my favorite on this album, but the songs are too bloated for my tastes.

Wicked album. I love Isis, they are so dense.

Panopticon is rather overrated to me but The Beginning Of The End is a masterpiece so I reckon I'll get this.
/has a feeling he's already said this

Finally someone besides me likes "The Other"! I thought I was totally alone in that.

The more I listen to this, the more I think that the genre that this is in is wrong. Yeah this is semi-heavy stuff, but I'd say its just Heavy Post Rock, and not metal.
But that's just one man's opinion...

If you want to know the story of the album, scroll down for it.
A man who is really shut out of society, a loner basically, is considering suicide. Then, he meets a woman who draws him out of his shell, and makes me happy and all that. Then he finds out that the girl has been having a long term incestuous (sp?) relationship with her brother. Then, he kills himself by throwing himself into the ocean.

The story of the album goes as such...

Yea, I love how it's so subtle and calm and then builds up to such a powerful riff. It has a great structure too...just an awesome song.
My views on this album have fluctuated a lot. At first I didn't like it, then I liked it, then I thought it was a little too bloated. Now, I'd say that there are some really good songs on here (The Beginning and the End, The Other, Maritime, From Sinking) and songs that I could do without. It's got some great sections and some boring sections, but I think a 4/5 does it justice. It's certainly not as good as Panopticon, song for song anyway.

I never know what your feelings on this album are. One day you're saying it's a masterpiece of Post Metal, the next you think it's overrated, now this.
As for me, I love it of course.

What can I say? I'm bipolar...
But seriously, I think I appreciate the soundscapes of this album more when I'm high. That could be the issue.
