Yeah this may be my favorite BTBAM album not really sure yet. By the way Dream Theater suck pretty bad. Although Scenes From a Memory was pretty good.

They took down the stream, but thankfully left up Sun of Nothing, and it was awesome.
Great review dude.

I dont think BTBAM write good songs at all. They write a bunch of really cool parts without any real transitions (for the most).
|
| |
that's why this album is boring

The biggest issue that I have with this album is that almost every song has a really cool part that lasts for about 2-5 minutes but then the rest of the song just sucks. Personally I prefer Alaska.

I only like this better than Alaska because of the cool parts. The rest of the song is just screaming and chugging, but I find it more than tolerable

Eh I dig the cohesiveness of this over Alaska, not sure if I like this more than Silent Circus though. Although Cocaine is right, BTBAM need to figure out how to string their amazing parts together to make good songs. I agree with Iluvatar too, give them another album and they may be able to make something truly amazing. This Message Edited On 09.19.07

Alaska is pretty boring. Plus some of the riffs sound way out of place on a lot of the parts. This album seems to flow better than their other albums though, which I like. As I've stated before, they need to write more creative metal parts.

Um, if you can't write transitions between various parts, you're not a good songwriter because you're essentially just lumping random fragmented parts together without rhyme or reason.

I think is definitely the better of the two reviews up so far, it seems much less concerned with relating BTBAM to "shred-culture" or whatever (not that the other review wasn't good, i'm voting pos on both).
as far as the album goes, it's easily in my top 5 albums of this year so far. previously i'd only heard the "alaska" album, and that they've progressed so much in a mere two years is astounding. I'm a big fan of the sort of albums you have to totally immerse yourself in and listen to it as a whole, and this is definitely one of those.

Ugh people, who cares if BTBAM use a lot of weird transitions... that's part of their appeal. And they DO write some great songs, Selkies, Ants In The Sky, and Sun Of Nothing being excellent examples. They more or less stay in the same melody/key most of the time and flow very very nicely - hence, a good song. Another album would refine them even more, but they're easily one of the most creative metal bands out there today and most definitely are a head above the pack, songwriting-wise.
