i mean everything pelican seems to have on this record are some decent riffs and a nice guitar tone. They dont even manage to craft engaging buildups if that even was an intention.

So basically anything going on here i can get from other post metal bands + vocals.

such an influential record for all those other bands that you say you can get what is on here, yet most of them couldn't do it as elegant as what was presented here and with the crutch of vocals to make it more interesting. and for 2003, what was even around worth a damn besides Neurosis's blueprints, Oceanic, and The Beyond???

speaking honestly too, the buildups and sound are much more massive live, and at the time of this album's recording the band was tight on time. a dream of mine that they'd slightly remix this. the band is definitely more about the riffs and the flow than Mogwai-type post-rock buildups, though that they'd improve upon that on Fire in Our Throats...

decent riffs... cmon. the interplay of them all is what makes it.

check the 2005 live dvd too.

influence alone doesnt mean much to mean when the music itself isnt holding up but i guess i come from a different perspective than you. Also i jammes the first half of fire in our throats and i enjoyed it more that this.
