Awesome band. Great album. I will never take advice from a person who listens to such crap as Strung Out and Fall of troy. When u listen to crap like that why even bother to try and review such great bands not even near your calibar of musical taste.
lol, most ironic statement I have ever read.

I think there's a simple solution to this. yousuckatlife should just write a review for this. S/he is obviously smarter than all of us and actually "gets" this album. It'd only make sense to use that opinion in a well-written review to retort the opinions stated in my review.

I sort of liked Waiter... , and have been meaning to look this up but this makes me fearful. Pretty good review though. I don't think the samples here sounded too bad, but you can definitely hear the Beatles in there, and I could understand how an entire album of that could cause the listener to lose interest.

I dunno. I'll probably still get it just to hear the whole thing.

Claims, they crawled from those clouds,

over mountains cried

into the streams where they ran the length of

past and time that called out

with their hands beside you as all the people shouted

up to the "northern" territories

My, they glowed like a bug burning at the ends of

shade covered crowns

whose only words were

wicked mumbles shake unstable manners

brought these thoughts about you

lights up like flies and ants that dip about and aim to

to swallow us up like the bread baked gums

Now I remain glowing at the ends

I remain glowing at the ends

It's because it's you they've became

Shade drifts around, southern where the sheets

are growing ash and steeple factories

old boy you'll never know just what they

think, it never finds you

cheap work finding pockets only when we're aimed to

to swallow them up like the bread baked gums

Now I remain glowing at the ends

I remain glowing at the ends

It's because it's you they've became

These lights were waves that spilled through my space (in the plains)

Where no one knows if they'll ever need again (I want to)

These lights were waves that spilled through my space (in the plains)

Where no one knows if they'll ever need again (I want to)

(come and get and take me home)

-"shade"

if any you guys could even begin to interpret this, i'll cry

I totally forgot about Cow Glue and how bad this album was. Does anybody know if this album sold well?

I think this album is great. Equally as good as their first, if not better.

I'm disappointed with your rating of this album simply because of how structured the layers of pop are formed over what seems to be a walk through some pre-southern rock folk. This band changed from electric drum beats and transformed their focus and you give them a 1.5?

I think the audience average gives you an indication that you never allowed the intricacies sewn throughout this album to be appreciated. Give it a few more spins.

Saw this band live last night and they are way better live.
They add huge jam sections in their songs which make their songs +100 times better.

Not a bad album but still needs time to grow if it is going to actually grow on me.

But, even if it doesn't i'll still see them live again, they destroied the Rx Bandits.

Usually huge jam sessions in songs piss me off. It turns into more of an excuse for white hippies to dance badly.

saw this band live in May with Minus the Bear. Portugal the Man is one of the worst live bands I've ever heard. period. god, the guitar tone, the vocals... everything was just painful.
and I didn't even think their recordings sounded thaaat awful.

I have to admit, I didn't like this album the first time I heard it, I actually removed it from my Itunes and deleted it from my computer, haha. But that was before I knew anything about PTM, I have since become hooked on Waiter! and subsequently Censored Colors. Both of which are in my top ten albums of the year for their respective years. I came back to this album for a second listen after all this and, holy crap, it is so damn good. i think what turned me off to it was that I was expecting a Mars Volta approach to it and the musicianship didn't measure up to that expectation. When I came back I was able to appreciate it as the rocking medium between there first and latest album(which really gave me the respect for this band that I have now) and it made me wonder what I had missed the first time. Listen to Waiter, listen to CC, and come back to this one. I can guarantee you it will be a brand new experience.
