I never managed to capture what makes these guys so great. They pack a great punch on faster parts, but overall slow and boring album imo.
With Paper Wings, Laura Palmer and the Instrumental track are great, the two latest almost make me weep a bit haha. The rest is just remains a yawning experience for me though.

that happens when you give it one listen

Yeah, except i gave it at least 5 listens. At least, not kidding. Each listen felt like bringing alight the boring moments more and more, and making them look really lackluster in comparison to the aforementioned tracks. I mean it's listenable, but really nothing special in the way i see it.

I've just always connected to this style of metalcore really easily. Just very passionate, not always innovative, but emotionally captivating. This is an album you need to be in the mood for it to really click with you, in my opinion. I love the melodies and contrasts in this album. They aren't the most musically intense or even close to complex, just effect-laden to give it a more full sound. But the reason I love it is because it all feels genuine. It sounds completely sincere to my ears. Though I connect with SO much of this style of metalcore and melodic hardcore/post-hardcore for that very reason. If it contains a genuine passion that I can pick up on, I will be interested.

I definitely understand what you mean Justin. I'd say i love the chaos, and the sense of urgency
that Mathcore/earlier Metalcore carries, it feels really genuine and passionate. Love the
depressive, heavy on feelings mood. Just some albums of this kind don't get to me, the slower ones.
I can understand that you, like many others have the ability to feel the passion and intensity
behind for example, this album. I feel like its missing something, like i wish that somewhere in
this album there were build ups to an actual explosion of feelings, unrelentingly pissed lines, i
feel like they keep it too safe and repetitive. Slow paced emocore'sque music doesn't speak to me a
lot, i guess that's just it.
I recon it passes on some real feelings though, and cheers to bands that accomplish to give that to
the listener. I'll keep exploring the earlier Metalcore scene and see what comes up!
