meh, the music isn't spectacular to me, but the vocalist is, and the atmosphere of this album is incredible. it's almost dredg-like but a lot more energetic so it's easier to listen to in settings like driving.

That isn't even the album I'm talking about.
ohok, but i think this is better than good apollo burning star
The singers lows are horrible.
I don't think they're that bad, I like how his voice is quite versatile. His lows on dance of the manatee are awesome.
|
| |
I will concede however that the last 3 or so songs are pretty weak.

His lows in dance of the manatee reek of trying too hard. It's a good part because it varies things up, but is just weak on it's own.
Going to give this another spin and see if it grows any more...

Nonsense! A Wolf Descends... is the only weak track. This Message Edited On 04.23.08

I actually didn't really have a problem with any of the first 8 songs, except perhaps kyla cries cologne. I just feel that the album finishes on a low, the mid section is really blistering and awesomesauce, but then it just finishes with a wet fart.

FTM makes some of the most powerful choruses I've heard in music.

I was digging this until the bad Limp Bizkit part in the first song, then it struggled to keep my interest. Came off as a weird mix between Fall Out Boy and System of a Down with a hint of Incubus thrown in, which would've been cool but I don't know, album is lacking something. If you're not fond of that comparison, Plath's "Savage Garden meets Tool" one will suffice.
What I don't get is why this band is being praised as some genre-bending creative force. These songs are certainly well crafted enough but come on, this is still basically just "alt rock". This Message Edited On 04.25.08

I agree its basically alt rock, but I still love it.

Oh yeah no I wasn't using 'alt rock' in a derogatory sense, I just don't think being such an obvious blend of bands makes these guys unique so much as it makes them an obvious blend of a bunch of bands.

idc what this is i love it

This is good, but I don't see why it keeps getting labeled as prog.

You're right, they aren't totally unique or the new 'light' of alt rock, but they're very enjoyable (this album at least). This Message Edited On 04.26.08
