Quickly pieced together for the documentary film of the same name, the 'Some Kind of Monster' EP lives or dies by its 6 live tracks. Unfortunately, those cuts were recorded in Paris during 2003; a time when the quartet weren't exactly in peak form. Other than making a few lyrical errors, James Hetfield's vocals weren't in great shape, while the playing is occasionally sloppy. Thankfully, the 6 songs come from Metallica's 1st 3 LPs, meaning they are strong choices that are fun to listen to. The title track also appears in its original 8 minute form, as well as a refined 4 minute edit. Recommended Tracks: Hit the Lights, Ride the Lightning & The Four Horsemen.

Watched first 30+ minutes and then I stopped watching, as I realized that
1. I’m not interested in the first-world “problems” of this band, and
2. I didn’t want to demythologize the band that recorded the pre-90s albums.
Newsted’s footage was the sanest thing in those 30+ minutes.

Kirk Hammett is such a massive pussy, it's actually kind of entertaining. James and especially Lars are also massive parodies of rock stars so it's basically like watching Spinal Tap.
I miss when Metallica was a band and not a business.

Overall, if you like Live Cd's (since this basically is a Live cd, except for track 1 and 8) this cd is for you. I enjoy this cd for what it is and theres no need to bash it. If they added more songs from Early Metallica days, thuis would be perfect.
4/5=overall
