I wasn't instantly hooked on Opeth, but it didn't take me that long to get into them. I began to "get" the music within a week or so of listening to Opeth.

And yea, I agree with the others. The Drapery Falls is one of their best. I love that vocal part where he just goes, "Ahhh ahh ahh ohh ahh ahh ahh ohh ahhhh ahhhaaa." It gives me chills every time. The Leper Affinity, Bleak, and Blackwater Park aren't far behind, though. It's like a 4-way tie between all those songs.

what eakflanderyoff said, those four songs are defaintely the four best, could almost go either way with me. The title track si currently my favorite though, then LA then bleak then TDF. Al are in my top 10 opeth songs.

The Drapery Falls is a great track, the first Opeth song I'd ever heard. It's still probably my favorite.

Tool is much more boring than this. MUCH more.

But this album needed at least 1 average-scored review. This Message Edited On 07.01.07

if by boring you me they change their sound with each song they play, then you are correct.

Hardly. The only Tool song I can stand is Ticks and Leeches, and even half of that song is just a borefest. I could care less if they change their sound X amount of times, they're still boring.

It took me about 3 listens, but that third time I realized just how incredible this was. Shadow said it all about this album and i don't feel the need to repeat him. But I do think that this band/album are extremely overhyped. Those expecting some grand re-invention of music are bound to be disappointed. This band isn't the greatest thing ever to happen to the world... they're just really really really great. lol

Just bought Deliverance and I'm really enjoying, especially the title track. you should give it a try, it's very different from this.

After you gave Daydream Nation a 3, I haven't trusted your opinion. I even like this more than you do. But it was a good review.

haha, thats fair enough. I'm carving out my contrarian niche at Sputnik =) That said, i really do believe in what i write, i don't do it just for to rail people up.

I listened to this in full today on a plane trip home from Montreal, so amazing... and your review was very well written, but I absolutely love the atmosphere and musical passages of the songs you bashed. I find one thing though, with the exception of The Leper Affinity you cant listen to songs off this album easily.

oh wait, Harvest... f'ing love it. I feel like that song puts me in the middle of a Siberian tundra, don't ask me why.

but your Daydream Nation review seemed as if you went in hoping to not like it so you could carve that niche.

haha, you're probably right, but that was me indulging in style over substance. In purely stylistic terms, thats my favorite review that I've written. Ill be happy if i can achieve that level of writing 'aesthetic' and balance it with the same sort of substance i did in this review. Seems to be a trade off though, *sigh* Thank you for the compliment though. This Message Edited On 07.02.07

This is growing old on me, it's starting to sound less cool. I think it's time to go over the whole process of listening to it while im falling asleep again. This Message Edited On 07.13.07This Message Edited On 07.13.07
