When I first bought this disc, I listened to it all the way through in my car on a drive by myself out of town. I didn't like it. It wasn't what I was used to at all. In fact, I didn't listen to it for a few weeks after I purchased it. I was playing a lot of AoE III at the time and decided to keep it in rotation as I played and holy shit did this album ever grow on me. It grew on me like vines. There was nothing like it, and still nothing like it today. Although I love Orchid and Morningrise, especially My Arms, Your Hearse, this album is a major achievement not only for Opeth, but for Progressive Death Metal in general.

But for real, that Bleak riff is one of the best ever made.

It’s heavy as hell.

Band changed my life and I doubt I’d be listening to half the artists I am now if it weren’t for Opeth.

Opeth opened the death/black metal door for me, and Dream Theater opened the prog one

That's a good reflection. I would say Machine Head opened the door for me into heavier metal than thrash and Death definitely opened the best door of my DM life for sure. Pink Floyd opened the door to Prog rock, Led Zeppelin started it all for me in hard rock, Black Sabbath started my journey into heavy metal and Tool opened the door to nowhere for me. Still waiting...

Kaiwaz, that's a very thorough recollection. You started off listening to some pretty good bands dude. I'd say the 70s might be the most interesting musical era

That was my childhood. My Dad always tells me here and there that the first time I sang to a song was Centerfold by The J. Geils Band. He always makes fun of me because I said "does she come oplete". I was 3 Dad, Jesus Christ.

Bleak is awesome, I have never liked Wilsons' vocals on it though.

"The outro to the title track ...holy moly ..." [123456] One of my fave moments in music.

Eh, I love Bleak, it's the perfect way to follow up Leper Affinity IMO.
