This is another really important release for melodic swedish metal. These guys really put together one of the tightest swedish death metal albums of all time. I give this album a 5/5 for its distinguishing sound and well thought out songs. Too bad their existance was very short lived.

got this finally!

4.5/5 easily, and i've listened to it enough times to know it doesn't really grate. i like the way the solos are melodic and effective without going too far into widdletown. also, its clear where arch enemy's angela gossow got her vocal style from...

nausea sounds like a slayer outtake, and the two instrumentals show another side to the band. altogether, this is a very varied album, but at the same time it essentially defines the origins of melodic death (essentially a slightly more melodic take on what Carcass started with "Heartwork"). feck'n essential!

Its funny....this albums cycle has gone around at least three times now. it was cool, then it was GREAT...now its become fashionable to say "well, I don't see what everyone was talking about. XXXXX was better than this".

People are funny creatures.

To me 'Slaughter Of The Soul' is a classic album and it will remain as one for as long as music means something to me. Brilliant.

I also think this is a great album. Very thrashy in their melodic death metal. Someone needs to do a review of Terminal Spirit Disease.

well too similar sounding.... no duh it was one of the first, then a million copies came along, second, I listen to alot of melo death and from all the one's ive heard hardly any use ATG style riffing, they most of the time do have switches between 8th and 16th notes, while most other bands keep it in either 8th in 16th -i play guitar.. so yeah lol- I did notice some riffs or parts of riffs being used in other songs, and well I can play most of this album on guitar... the songs arent that hard, but they are actually more complex than older compositions except maybe The Break of Autumn and a few others in TRITSIO, as well as With Fear, most of the old songs are all in mostly one note value, and alot of notes are repeated, taking away from the complexity, in my humble opinion, and I do rank TSD as being their best album, but I love all of their material.. so yeah, and I do agree Under A Serpent Sun is pretty varied, I think all of the songs have somewhat of a very different riff structure, and I can say this confidently because I know how to play almost all of them -i only need to learn suicide nation and world of lies, along with need... I got parts done but yeah- i'd further explain the similarities in songs... but i already typed to much, contact me if you want to discuss this though...

I think it's great from start to finish, and I like it just as much as terminal spirit disease.

"Suicide Nation" is probably my favorite, but it's a tough choice. "Into The Dead Sky" is also quite relaxing.

I might try and get this, although i've heard some songs off it already.

I consider ATG to be one of my main influences already, be it in guitar playing or whatever.
