The third time I heard this I finally made my mind up that this is near perfect. To me The Overly Dramatic Truth is about him seeing a much younger girl and his way of admitting it's wrong to take advantage yet loving the pleasure of it? as opposed to what you said. Well written review though

he's an atheist. the song is generally about how people turn to god in times of fear. the story goes he was on an airplane when an engine blew and they had to make an emergency landing and he began to pray for his life despite not being religious.
