New song rules, really, really hard. Not so much metal but awesome. Her voice has always seemed a little too processed though.

Maria Brink is one of the only blonde women I ever found attractive.

Ever.

Hey, for female-fronted rock band check out Warlock.

This band looks interesting, but is probably just another Evanescence

This debut LP from LA quintet In This Moment is tough to rate. Upon 1st listen, I could hardly tolerate Maria Brink’s awful screaming (& evil-sounding whispering), but as familiarity kicks in, you can actually hear some melodic potential in amongst the metalcore mess. The all clean vocal title track is catchy, while ‘Circles’ has some fantastic guitar-work, but even a good song like ‘Prayers’ has some cringe-worthy moments. Basically, ‘Beautiful Tragedy’ begins & ends decently enough, but there is some horrible stuff in-between. Recommended Tracks: Beautiful Tragedy & Circles.

Sounds like the unrealized ideas you would hear on a band's first album. Still not bad though.

5th paragraph: "but she [?] her vocal melodies flow extremely well over the pulsating rhythms beneath her"
Forgotten 'make' perhaps? Just mentioning though.

Anyway, great review. I definitely agree on the rating, have yet to listen to the album, but it sounds very promising, especially after reading your view. I concur as far as her voice is concerned: close to angelic. I really enjoy listening to them.

I love this band, but for me this is their weakest album by a mile. The mid-section is just a chore to get through...

I haven't heard anything of note from this band since 2008. Have they split or something?

nope. They've released 2 albums since then. Not as good as their first 2 though (latest album being absolutely dreadful)
