One thing to realize about this album, is that it was released when there was some tension between the band members about the direction of the sound of the band, and whether it was intentional or not, i think this album is a landmark in the split between the band members and the sound they wanted. Plus they were trying to get away from the cookie cutter sound they had created for the punk scene, and ended up pissing off a lot of their fans. which i think was part of their intention, so does the album work?, hell yes!

nothing like this album exists anywhere, from any band (up until when it was released at least), this album paved the way for many experimental bands and i think black flags catalog wouldn't be the same without this left field jazz fusion hardcore punk spoken word mix. one thing people need to realized about black flag, is that their music was always about the dissonance and unsettling feelings it gave off. it was never meant to be put on a pedestal and looked at objectively like we do with music today. it was an expression. so to me this album is really art. It reflected the real life problems the band was facing and the band managed to create something unique and interesting. so how can you judge it objectively? they were pushing boundaries, and i think this album is the bands most experimental and left field album. definitely worth a listen.

objectively - not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts; unbiased: an objective opinion.

Lol yeah because your comment really enlightened us on how unique and interesting the album is, not to mention:

"nothing like this album exists anywhere, from any band (up until when it was released at least)"

dunno, pretty sure spoken word, instrumental tracks and shit music were around way before this record. If you think this album is really art then you're a tool on a whole bunch of levels
