Martin and Niklas were in their prime years here. The guitar work is just killer

I agree Omair.
I'm haven't listened to this in years until tonight and man, this still sounds as ambitious as ever.

Randomly got the urge to listen to this tonight and it really holds up well. First 3 tracks are back to back bangers. I forgot how many awesome riffs are loaded into this thing.

It is very good! I think the songwriting on Damage Done is a tad better, but this is very close. I was walking the dogs yesterday and decided to put Atoma for the first time since it was released, and it's actually a prettty decent DT album! Kinda surprised me how much I enjoyed it tbh, because I remember think it was just okay.

My Negation has always been one of my favourite DT songs, utter classic

Some of this is so infectious, definitely happy to declare I’m developing more of a liking for this side of death metal in recent times.

Do you consider Edge of Sanity top tier? I like Crimson, should probably delve deeper into that band.

Purgatory and Spectral are the other ones worth checking out if you're curious enough.
I'd say check out In Flames' albums 2-4 if you haven't already

Yeah I’ve done that before, only really enjoyed The Jester Race. No harm in trying again mind.

The other album I'd rec is Insomnium's SOTDS, that's a really enjoyable album

Crimson 2 is good yeah but way too disjointed. Really don't like the way he broke up the tracks

Re Insomnium: Above the Weeping World was okay. Not heard the others.
My fave melodeath album (that doesn’t descend too far into prog territory) is Quo Vadis - Day Into Night. At the Gates debut is right up there, but it’s not really in the same category.

@Omair, I've heard that complaint about II but it's some of the best riffs ever and the way he loops back to previous riffs is cool

Above the Weeping World is okay, agreed. Def rated too highly on sput.
