This is a great punk album, but it's nothing amazing. I honestly don't think that Wire did anything revolutionary with Pink Flag, it just sounds like basic punk music.

The really daring thing about Pink Flag is the song structures. No one had ever written rock songs with such a sense of economy and frankness. I mean, the Ramones wrote short songs, but they were short with fast verses and big choruses. Wire, on the other hand, wrote these formless blobs of punk rock that do so much with so little, and have so much to grab onto, without being typical in their exposition of themes. I think the fact that you don't find much strange about it, Zebra, is a testament to how great of songwriters they actually were. Their music is so different, but somehow the songs stick with you and feel just right. For a debut to have such a concrete concept that denies the tradition of a 20 year old musical form is really amazing.

This album is overwhelming, song wise. A lot of really good stuff though. I'll probably end up giving it a 4 or 4.5, and I can see myself listening to this a lot.
