I don't like Simple Plan.
I hate the vocals. Can't stand it. Really whiny.
The lyrics seem shallow and unoriginal.

i don't hate the band, since LOTS of other bands are more ****ty than simple plan, but i don't like them too much either, as they pale in comparison to other power-pop bands like sum 41 or afi . . . kickass review by the way :thumb: . . .

My $.02
I cannot comment on the actual music, becuase I haven't heard Simple Plan since they first came out. I loathed their first radio single, and haven't checked them out since. I listen to the radio about once each few months, so I often miss out on what the cool new music is supposed to be.
Anyway, my first point is that these guys are NOT punk. A punk band is on an independent record label. You can make the argument of working within the system to change it, but how has Simple Plan done that? Punk is not about fashion, tempo, distortion, 4/4 drumbeats, or screaming. There is an ideology that follows it, and I have yet to see how a band on MTV that writes songs whining about life and relationships becomes a punk band. Rage Against the Machine had more of a punk ideology, even if they were a totally different style.
My second point is that it IS possible to have civilized, intelligent discussion about music. It's good to express your opinion, but there's a difference between whining/ranting and constructive comments. That applies to the thread starter as well as the people flaming the band without reason.
My final point is that this controversy actually works in your favor. Look at how many more posts and views this has than one of my reviews. More people will read your review, and more people will comment on it. It's good publicity. And the review itself isn't as bad as people are making it to be either.

Album Rating: 1.0
The drums do a pretty good job of providing a beat.
Yeah thats usually their job.

PS: Mr. Reviewer, with all the individual ratings averaged, the final rating only works out to about 8.36/10.
Hooray for Math!
heres a new idea stop being over critical about music, it isent just preteeen kids that like this kind of music, who are you to say whats good and bad about music? and who can and cant listen to it? you cant just force your views on other people, maybe you all think simple plan are crap but some people dont, and i dont see the point in you all bitching about how pop you think they are cos it aint gonna make them go away! why cant you just take a diplomatoc view and keep your personal opinions about how pop or annoying they are to yourselves!
I never forced anything on you. Just because you disagree doesn't mean I'm not allowed to state what I think.
We can't praise every album here, because what would be the point in reviewing? Everything's getting a good score on this forum it seems, so why would anyone, after reading this forum's reviews, be able to decide what to purchase if everything's getting 5/5? Amongst all the high points given, this is a record that truly deserves the 2/5 at the very most. I'd give it a 1.
Simple Plan is terrible. Still I'd sooner listen to them than Hilary Duff, since at least....there's a guy who can drum in 4/4 and a guy who knows how to play power chords. I'll admit they have the ability to be catchy.

This is off topic, but funny thing. I saw an interview with Hilary Duff where she said that her cover of The Gogo's Our Lips Are Sealed is a "newer, punkier version of the song". If Hilary Duff is Punk I don't know what this world has come to.

Simple plan is pretty good.
I honestly think Sum 41 is better though

I agree with you completely. The only people think bands such as Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Avril Lavine etc. are Punk is because the media tells them so. And the fact that three quarters of these people have never heard real Punk before.

ok...

Yeah... well I might give a CD with strong single songs a lower grade, or a CD with weak individual songs a high grade. A CD can be more (or less) than the sum of its parts, to use that cliche. I don't think that's the case here, but yeah...
And jeremy_a, you're 100% right.

That was a nice review. Seriously though, for the sake of what's left in good Rock music, which isn't much because most new rock sucks now anyways. These guys need to stop making music.
|
| |
It's just harmless pop-punk, good background music but useless if you really listen. Not offensive, not adventurous, nothing special at all.
|
| |
nice attempt at a review, dude. but you got to switch mtv off and listen to some real music.
|
| |
dude, i can stand a few pop punk bands, but simple plan just take the piss, its barely even heavy enuff to be pop music!!!! i dont like slagging off peoples favourite bands, but i gotta make an exception. listen to some NOFX!!!!! they are the pinnacle of melodic punk!!!
|
| |
"Other punk bands like Blink 182, Sum 41, and Avril Lavigne."
|
| |
I agree with spoon_of_gimbo. NOFX much better.

Horrible, written-by-manager, pop-punk crap
