This is by far Elliott Smith's best record.

Left it last since digging into all his discography, but my god is this fucking depressing and just powerfully inspirational at the same time. Too pretty, too good to be true.

People can say this isn't quite as cohesive or as complete sounding as his other albums, but i still think most of the material here is his best.

For me this is the perfect balance of the stripped down sound found on earlier albums and the more grandiose stuff he was able to do on XO and Figure 8.

I like this better than XO and I don't care who knows. All of his other albums are better than this though. But like his discog is one the best ever, so whatever.

XO used to be my favorite album. I still say either his S/T or Figure 8 is his worst but it's difficult

Figure 8 is my favorite. Hella underrated.

XO is my least favorite as well. I feel like Elliott was still making a transition on being able to use a big budget studio to its maximum potential

for me figure 8 is a like fully realized version of XO. the production is better, the experimentation is on point, and it's more cohesive as well.

even with all that said XO still rules and has a few of my favorite songs by him

Exactly. It's his only album that doesn't feel completely crafted to me. That's why I think it's funny that people say that about this album. XO is less cohesive than this is imo. XO is an obvious transition album, where as this may have some elements he never used previously, it still feels like a natural evolution from Figure 8, and thus feels more fully realized than XO does.

I have to say this record has to be his best for me. I feel like there's so many just truly excellent songs one after the other, as other records tend to work in eb and flows between his best and simply great/good material.

Also the lyrics on this record are just twice as strong as previous outputs for me.
