Which ones are you missing? I’d say you can skip Uh Huh Her and Hope Six but the rest are all pretty essential.

Dry, those two and Let England Shake (have cursively checked the first tracks a couple of times, but never got my claws in). Uh Huh Her does sound kinda fun though...

Dry is very similar to Rid Of Me but a little less raw sans the Albini production but about equally as good imo. LES is definitely more of a grower, very different from the rest of her discog to that point but a rewarding and harrowing account of the impacts of war. Uh Huh Her is pretty rote, inoffensive but nothing special.

This is a grower. Probably my favourite atm.

Interesting, gonna hop on Dry next then; Rid Of Me is a bit hit or miss for me, but a cool record. This is comfortably my least favourite though, repeated plays notwithstanding :[

I can agree with Rid Of Me being a bit hit or miss, though still excellent. On balance I’d say Dry is more consistent but with lower peaks. Gun to my head I probably like Dry a bit more as a whole.

Why is she so fucking good.

Apparently, it's because on top of her talent: she doesn't write music to impress others, she mainly writes it for herself, or at least she said that in an interview I saw once

Yeah man but really, as a songwriter and as a performer, she's ridiculously good.
God, would love to share a beer with PJ.

'Apparently, it's because on top of her talent: she doesn't write music to impress others, she mainly writes it for herself, or at least she said that in an interview I saw once'
I mean, she's clearly great, but this is an incredibly common concept amongst artists. At least going by what they communicate directly to us ('us' as in music fans / the listeners). I would imagine some are being a touch disingenuous, yet the majority probably do just write for themselves. It's a classic line 'we just write / play the music we enjoy / would listen to ourselves' and being very pragmatic when it comes to others liking it as well.
I imagine if you were to look at artists that have tasted higher levels of popularity, then it may change that dynamic a little towards 'wanting to please' people - but again, not exactly uncommon to simply write whatever they want, or to broadcast that as their intention.
