I watched the Fantano review and I think I agree. I originally said I wasn’t sure if I just preferred them in shorter form, but maybe im not getting tired of the record near the end, maybe the songs themselves just aren’t as good
Gonna jam the first and second halves of this record separately and figure out what the fuck is wrong with me

Fantano is on point with this imo. Their EPs are much tighter even if I'm always jamming them in one go, as if they'd be 2 sides of an album proper. I get the criticism about the lyrics and the sax themes/song structure being samey, but it works for me lol, brings out the deep-buried teenage self and I love it. Without the EPs and half of the songs pre-released, this album would make much larger waves.

This band would do amazing as just an instrumental group! These vocals are fucking annoying as hell

Yeah, that's what drags it down for me too. The "rapping" is so annoying lol.

Well... That's part of the deal here. Weather you dig it or not.
Unfortunately there s a pair of songs not quite on the level from the rest of the record. The rest is kinda sick.

Glad it's not just me then. Had to turn it off. Look Down On Us is a good song though and the one which brought me to listening to the album. Made it to track 6 before the vocalist became too insufferable for me to continue. Great instrumentation though.

Finally got around to spinning this after a few attempts, and I'm really glad it finally stuck with me. We'll see if it has staying power until the end of the year, but the first full impression is really solid.

How much of their older stuff did they play?

iirc just thunder and zeitgeist

Damn lol.

I was gonna guess Zeitgeist because that to me was when they started to change their style up a bit. I wondered as soon as I listened to this album how they’d incorporate some of their older material with the newer heavier stuff, I guess they’re leaning full on into the new sound going forward

Okay yeah they are kind of cringe live, but I can't say I didn't enjoy seeing them. The vocals (the "rapped" parts especially) really ruin what's otherwise a brilliant instrumental band. It's not as annoying on record, but live they really do put a lot of focus on the vocals for some reason. Like, they're noticeably louder than the instruments which I found super jarring, plus it also makes the terribly on-the-nose lyrics very obvious.

Yeah, the vocals bring this down a lot.

I love the instrumental aspect, but yes, I definitely agree. The previous EP was so much better.

If you want an album that has similar energy that this has with a little different lyrical/vocal variety go back and listen to Prostitute’s Attempted Martyr from last year
